PROJECTS

NSF Digital Government Project : SpatialTemporal Analysis of 911 Call Stream Data

9-1-1 call data contains valuable information that can be used for improving emergency response services. The aim of this project is to mine this data for better overall emergency planning and for real-time emergency decision support. Our approach consists in uncovering meaningful patterns in 9-1-1 call data through spatiotemporal analysis, correlating them to external events, at a State-wide as well as local level. Of particular interest is the determination of unusual spatiotemporal trends, or "signatures", in call data and their association with external events such as wildfires and eartquakes. Finding such signatures will help provide advance warning to Public Safety Answering Points (PSAP's), fire responders, and other emergency service personnel. For this, we are using an array of advanced data management, data analysis, data mining, and statistical techniques.
Chaitan Baru is the PI for the project.
