SCIENTIFIC WORKFLOW AUTOMATION TECHNOLOGIES (SWAT) LAB

Members of the SWAT Lab conduct research in scientific workflows to support the computational experiment life-cycle and also the management and integration of scientific data. Scientific workflow execution often requires a combination of distributed and local service execution and efficient data access and provenance techniques. Kepler Scientific Workflow System is the driving application for the research and development of SWAT Lab. Main areas of research include: scientific workflows, Web and Grid Service-based execution, techniques for high-performance and high-throughput computation, knowledge representation and access to this data through scientific workflow systems, and query processing for scientific databases and workflows. On several of these, SWAT works closely together with colleagues from other labs at SDSC, from other projects in Kepler, and from the CSE Departments located at U.C. San Diego and U.C. Davis. SWAT also works with scientists from various disciplines to support their computational experiments.

The SWAT lab is headed by Ilkay Altintas.
